Using email to send credit card details? - Peter Cononeos, the executive director of the Internet Industry Association was recently quoted in "Icon" (SMH 2/5/00) as saying that those who deem the internet unsafe for credit card transactions are "either uninformed or highly misleading". "There's never been a case of an email being intercepted," he says. The article goes on to state that online credit card theft does occur when fradulent Web sites masquerade as large online retail stores to lure customers into revealing their credit card details. The risk to a customer appears to be minimal (or non existent) provided the customer alerts the card issuer to the fraud. High Jinx customers should feel confident about using email to place orders from this site, even though no encryption is used. Many experts believe consumers face a bigger risk of credit-card fraud offline, particularly in restaurants, where a waiter has a carbon copy of your signature. If you have any doubts please fax or phone your order through.
