Blue Mountains Climber's Rescue Group

Equipment

The following lists are our recomendations for group members if called to a rescue, followed by some group equipment to suplement what is carried on the Police vehicle likely to attend a cliff rescue.

Personal Equipment

1 Harness (UIAA or with manufacturer's details visible)
1 Helmet (UIAA rated)
1 In-Line descender (rated min 2000kg) with a locking carabiner (rated min 2000kg)
2 Ascenders (rated min 600kg at cam) each with a locking carabiner (min 2000kg)
3 Prussik Loops (min 7mm cord) with a locking carabiner (rated min 2000kg)
1 Pulley (rated min 2000kg) with a locking carabiner (rated min 2000kg)
5 Spare locking carabiners (alloy) (rated min 2000kg) - for group rigging
1 Steel locking carabiner, Large D
3 Slings Shoulder Length (rated min 2000kg)
3 Slings Double Length (rated min 2000kg)
1 Head Torch
1 Personal First Aid Kit
1 Whistle
1 Knife
1 Lead Climbing Rack

A-List members must also carry a Gri Gri

Personal climbing equipment - boots, chalk bag etc
Rainwear and clothing appropriate to the circumstances
Food and Water
Overnight equipment appropriate to the circumstances and time of year
Wetsuit if applicable

Note :

As a general rule all equipment should be rated to a minimum of 2000 kg (or 20KN) to be consistent with State Rescue Policy guidelines. Lightweight slings, carabiners or prussiks MUST NOT be used in any rescue systems.
