Blue Mountains Climber's Rescue
Group
Report - Practice Day 26/10/06
We had 25 people turn up and participate including representatives from Blue Mountains Police Rescue and VRA/BWRS in addition to a large contingent of local guides, TAFE students (Outdoor Rec Cert 4) and recreational climbers, canyoners and cavers. There were a number of first timers along.
We completed a number of basic tasks on the 35m and 10m cliffs at Little Switzerland near Wentworth Falls. Lots of members got a chance to try some new roles in our standard system. We examined some items of gear that were destruction tested recently. We also trialled some new rescue-rated belay devices with the SRT Now Worries and Fallrite AutoStop performing adequately. We used 8mm prusiks for the bolt-on connection and to belay the belay rope on a couple of the exercises and they were good in these roles. We'll do more trialing of these devices and will prepare a report on their use after that.
Committee members in attendance were Adam Darragh, Richard Delaney and Lucas Trihey.
