DAILY INDIVIDUAL EQUIPMENT

CARRIED IN RUCKSACK

Every entrant must carry a small rucksack with this gear:

  • Water bottles. Minimum capacity 4 litres – you can carry more if desired.
  • Snacks and lunch
  • Personal medications if required
  • Sun protection – hats, cream etc
  • Matches and firelighter
  • Head torch
  • Watch
  • Signalling mirror
  • Sun glasses

All this gear will be checked at the start of each day’s leg. 

DAILY TEAM EQUIPMENT

SHARED IN INDIVIDUAL RUCKSACKS

Each team must carry the following navigation and safety gear at all times:

  • 1 X primary GPS unit (pre-loaded with SDM camps). Supplied.
  • 1 X back-up GPS unit (pre-loaded with SDM camps). Supplied.
  • 1 topo map covering the course (1:250,000). Supplied.
  • A fresh pair of AA batteries for the GPS for each day and a spare set carried each day. BYO (14 X AA batteries in total)
  • 1 X sat-phone for emergency use (sealed and only to be used in an emergency). Supplied.
  • 1 X Electronic Distress Beacon (PLB/EPIRB) for extreme emergency only. BYO
  • First aid kit (small) to be carried each day (contents TBA). BYO
  • Notebook and pencil. BYO
  • Emergency instructions (laminated sheet supplied by organisers). Supplied

All this gear will be checked at the start of each day’s leg.
