SAFETY

All teams will carry with them a minimum kit of emergency and survival gear including a sat-phone to be used in an emergency to summon help or if the party becomes lost.

A specialist safety crew will be on standby for the entire event to find and rescue injured or lost teams.

Organisers are equipped with the latest in emergency and communications equipment including sat-phone, HF and UHF radio, Radtel, emergency beacons and advanced first aid equipment. Organisers will use specially equipped four-wheel drive vehicles for setting up camps and for team rescues.

HELPING OTHER TEAMS IN TROUBLE

If you see a team or individual in distress you are expected to offer to help. If requested by another team you may stop to render assistance without risking disqualification. If you use your sat-phone to help another team you will not be disqualified as long as you get your sat-phone re-sealed at the next camp.

SAT-PHONE

Each team will carry one sat-phone in case of emergency. Your sat-phone will be sealed in a tamper-proof bag by race organisers. The sat-phone is only to be used in an emergency. If the seal is broken when returned your team will be disqualified (unless it is used in an emergency).

Your sat-phone battery will be charged, checked and sealed at the start.

If you use your sat-phone for an emergency you will be charged for the call costs.
